I tried to upgrade from version 5.6.1 to 5.6.2 but got the error message number 1 underneath. (The condensed error message is: "Access to the path 'D:\DotNetNuke\Install\Cleanup\03.00.08.txt' is denied.")
The ASP.NET process does have access to the path 'D:\DotNetNuke\Install\Cleanup\03.00.08.txt'. So that shouldn't be the problem. Or am I overlooking something? (This is an error message I got a couple of months ago too when trying to upgrade. The solution back then was not adhering to the recommended upgrade path but only using the latest version. In this case that is of course not possible.)

When trying to access portal number 1 the error message: "This site is currently Unavailable" came up.
Portal number 2 had a different error message: "Compiler Error Message: BC32206: The project currently contains references to more than one version of Telerik.Web.UI, a direct reference to version 2010.2.929.35 and an indirect reference (through 'DotNetNuke.Web.UI.WebControls.DnnWindowManager') to version 2010.3.1317.35. Change the direct reference to use version 2010.3.1317.35 (or higher) of Telerik.Web.UI.". (The full version you can find underneath under Error Message Number 2.)

I tried the solution mentioned in Upgrade from 5.6.1 to 5.6.2 errors. After doing this I was able to access both portals, but didn't know what was not updated.

ASP.NET is not authorized to access the requested resource. Consider granting access rights to the resource to the ASP.NET request identity. ASP.NET has a base process identity

(typically {MACHINE}\ASPNET on IIS 5 or Network Service on IIS 6 and IIS 7, and the configured application pool identity on IIS 7.5) that is used if the application is not

impersonating. If the application is impersonating via <identity impersonate="true"/>, the identity will be the anonymous user (typically IUSR_MACHINENAME) or the authenticated

request user.

To grant ASP.NET access to a file, right-click the file in Explorer, choose "Properties" and select the Security tab. Click "Add" to add the appropriate user or group. Highlight the

ASP.NET account, and check the boxes for the desired access.

The source code that generated this unhandled exception can only be shown when compiled in debug mode. To enable

this, please follow one of the below steps, then request the URL:

1. Add a "Debug=true" directive at the top of the file that generated the error. Example:

<%@ Page Language="C#" Debug="true" %>

or:

2) Add the following section to the configuration file of your application:

<configuration>

<system.web>

<compilation debug="true"/>

</system.web>

</configuration>

Note that this second technique will cause all files within a given application to be compiled in debug mode.

The first technique will cause only that particular file to be compiled in debug mode.

Important: Running applications in debug mode does incur a memory/performance overhead. You should make sure

that an application has debugging disabled before deploying into production scenario.

So I tried implementing the solution mentioned in Upgrade from 5.6.1 to 5.6.2 errors before upgrading. I still got the same "Access to the path 'D:\DotNetNuke\Install\Cleanup\03.00.08.txt' is denied." error.

Portal number 0 came up (just as in the first attempt) with "This site is currently Unavailable".

I could access portal number 1 though. (The error message from the 1st attempt did not show up.)
(Logging in as host and having a look at the portals showed that I could delete portal number 0, but could not delete portal number 1. This normally is not possible. (Portal number 0 can to my knowledge never be deleted; all other portals can.))

Rebooting my PC made it possible to also access portal number 0. But my DotNetNuke installation still is not up to date (because of the error in the upgrade process.) Any solutions are very welcome!

The original error is due to a permissions issue in your folder structure.
Roll back your upgrade - go in and FORCE windows to update all permissions on all folders in your dnn folder structure to ensure NETWORK SERVICE or which ever other use is being used by your Application Pool has FULL ACCESS.

Thanks for your reply Westa!

I was quite sure I forced the rights on my complete DotNetNuke directory (and all of its subfolders and files) for the ASP.NET process to have 'Full Control', but triple checked it. Indeed the ASP.NET process had the correct rights and retrying the upgrade process resulted in the same ("Access to the path 'D:\DotNetNuke\Install\Cleanup\03.00.08.txt' is denied.") error message.

Rereading the error message gave me another idea:
"If the application is impersonating via , the identity will be the anonymous user (typically IUSR_MACHINENAME) or the authenticated request user."

I checked my web.config file and this was the case. Giving full control to the IUSR_MACHINENAME account (where MACHINENAME should be replaced by the name you gave your PC / machine) and retrying the upgrade process solved the problem.
