Hi

I need to localise a site in Hungarian. I have added the language in DNN and created a few .resx files to test. I have noticed that in IE the Hungarian locale is described as "Hungarian (hu-HU)" whereas in FireFox it is described as "Hungarian (hu)".

In DNN the language is "hu-HU".

When I browse to the site in IE the localisation works fine. DNN recognises the browser language and sets the labels to Hungarian. But in Firefox
this is not the case. The language falls back to English. "hu" is not recognised as "hu-HU" by DNN.

Is this a DNN problem or a firefox problem?  Surely DNN should be working out that "hu" means "hu-HU"?

Or am I doing something wrong?

thanks

Rachel

Rachel, the language should be sucessfully mapped, regardless of the browser you are using. However, for authenticated users, the default language is taken from the user profile.

Hi Sebastian

thanks for your reply.

If that is supposed to be how DNN handles languages then it does not work.  DNN does not seem to be able to recognise "hu" as "hu-HU".

I am testing unauthenticated users because I am trying to localise the login module. And I tell you it does not work.

If I type the language into the URL like this:

http://staging.ehsmonitor.com/dnn561/TestLogin/tabid/62/language/hu-HU/Default.aspx

then it works and the language is translated.  But it does not work with the browser language set to Hungarian "hu" in Firefox.

You can try it with the above link.

thanks

Rachel
If it works you will see "Remember Me on This Computer:Hungarian". If it doesn't you will see simply.  "Remember me on this computer?"

Rachel,
please note, that the language parameter is not "interpreted" - it needs to be set to a valid portal language when being retrieved from the browser, i.e. to test you need to adjust your browser settings, not the URL!

Hi Sebastian

I AM testing with the browser settings! Try if for yourself.

Firefox only has the Hungarian "hu" language available whereas IE has Hungarian "hu-HU" specified.

I am clealry not getting through to you am I?

My point is this, so please try this for yourself:

1>Build a clean DNN561
2> install the DNN language pack for Hungarian "hu-HU"
3> Edit a resource file for the login labels to Hungarian
4> Open Firefox and set the language to Hungarian "hu".
5> Browse to DNN.

DNN does NOT map Hungarian "hu" in Firefox to the installed language pack Hungarian "hu-HU". And the lables do not show in Hungarian.

BUT, if you try this:

Open IE and set the language to Hungarian "hu-HU". It works fine.

Therefore my conclusion is this. Dotnetnuke 561 does not see Hungarian "hu" and treat it like Hungarian "hu-HU".

So, do I need to create a language pack for "hu"? This means an enormous amount of extra work on top of all the trouble I am already having trying to locate and maintain all these resource files which are all over the place.

Can you confirm this as a bug or a limitation or what? What do you suggest? If a Hungarian users visits the site from FF they get English and not Hungarian. But IE users get Hungarian.

thanks
Rachel
