Yep if the database is on the local machine then it should be able to be addressed using 'local'.
If it is and you cannot connect then it points to an authentication error. Can you connect to the database using a SQL tool like Enterprise Manager/SQL Server management studio? Using one of these tools can you confirm that the DB is actually running in the SQL instance on the new machine. If so, check the user you are using in DNN, has access to the DNN database.

Many thanks for the reply

I will check through all you have suggested and get back to you (since I have to try out these in the other computer)....I certainly need your precious help...

With the current info I'm having, the DB is of course connected & running (I had checked that using the SQL Server Management Studio)....also I have tried using the host/host account in DNN (since that is a superuser, it must get connected to DB, rt?)

Thanks & regards

Praveen

The login accounts used to access the DNN site are not used to access the SQL server. Its the server/user/password details in the web.config file that enables access to the SQL server, if these don't access the SQL database then DNN will not work. From what you have said this is the problem you are experiencing on your other machine.
If you don't have much experience with SQL I would suggest either getting some instructional material and learning more about it or see if a friend collegue has some SQL experience and can troublesoot the issue for you.
You will probably find that someone with SQL knowledge in front of the machine should be able to solve the issue pretty quickly.
