That allowed me to add a category to the Type drop down list field within the add a new record function, but it did not actually add the category to the dropdown list on the original page itself. Any other suggestions?

The output in your configuration is controlled by a XSLT script, which is tweaked manually by your predecessor. The action menu allows you to "Edit Current XSLT Script". However your setup is special, the script should be treated with care. I suggest  hiring a specialist for this task.

I tried modifying the XSLT file first before anything. I was able to modify the dropdown list but even though the entires were there within the list, they were not able to access the data properly. I have been in contact with tech support but they haven't been of any help yet and I doubt that they will be.
