I took over an web site developed using DNN 5.1.  The version of Bin\DotNetNuke.dll is 5.1.0.773.  I'm using VS.NET 2010 with .NET 4.0, but targeted to ASP.NET 2.0.  I plan to upgrade to 4.0, but have to make it stable first before I can make big changes.

I need to do a lot of things to make the development more organized.  I committed all code into SubVersion.  Then I check the code out to my local machine.  But there is a problem after that.  When I run the web site on my local machine, the login link cannot be clicked.  I mean, I click the login link, but nothing happens.  No post back.

Then I load the login page, and enter the username and password.  But the I got an error:
A critical error has occurred.
Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.
How could I debug to find out what goes wrong?  I'm quite new to DNN, and don't know where is the user control or aspx page for login page.  Can anybody give me a hint?

Thanks!

Thanks and best regards!

After debugging a lot of code, finally find the solution.
Go to IIS Manager, set the Managed Pipeline Mode to Classic.  Then my web site will be working correctly.  Previously it was set to Integrated.

Thanks and best regards!

DNN should work nicely in integrated mode, but some modules (or 3rd party dll's) might not work properly. BTW: for stability and security reasons, you should upgrade to 5.6.2
