    I just had this error, no matter what the server would not serve an aspx page - would not show a .net error, just a standard html style page cannot be displayed/found error. Like the page was really not there.

Turned out that while the server had asp.net 2.0 on it, it was not completely installed - the webservice was not setup to recognize 2.0 - only 1.1.

you could easily verify this by going to IIS >>webservices and seeing if there were entries for both ASP.NET 1.1 and 2.0

Solution was to run a command from the command prompt (with the path set to the framework/2.0xxx folder.
