How can I change the password recovery function to make more sense?

I just attempted to recover the password for my account on a site I set up months ago, and the email it sent was completely useless.  It sent the following:

Portal Website Address: www.sampleaddress.com

Username:   <usernamechanged>

Password: *******

Is there a way to either get it to send a cleartext password, OR a link that prompts the user to change their password?  As it is, this is the functionality with defaults and it's completely useless.  This doesn't help my users at all.

Thanks,
Gabe
