Help!

My site was working fine yesterday and this morning.

Now, whenever I log in, the menu options all disappear.  I'm using the standard menu that goes across the top of the content panes (as opposed to the standard tree menu) .

I've made zero skinning / css changes today.

It doesn't matter what account I log in as, the menu disappears upon login.  Interestingly, earlier in the week I added some new user account profile properties.  When I logged in as my test user to see if I got the same results with a different account, it stopped me at the user profile page to fill in the new profile properties.  The menu was still visible at this time.

It's not being visually overwritten by anything, I put sticky notes so show the location of all screen items above and below the menu and they remained in the exact same place.  There is the same amount of space left for the menu to appear, it's just not appearing.

I fiddled with a few site/hosting settings relevent to the event log, and had added a new page/module when I noticed the problem.

Any ideas?

I queried the tabs and they all show the correct portalID and (I believe) the correct level.  The main menu items are level 0, the sub items are level 2, sub-sub items are level 2, etc.  I queried the tabs table and IsVisible is checked and DisableLink is not checked.  DisableLink is not checked.

IsSecure is checked.  I'm not using SSL.  Is that the problem?

I did some more checking with sql queries. My level 0 menu objects (other than host/admin) have an IsSecure setting of 0, which is what I would suspect.

I've restarted the application and (I believe) undone the log setting changes I made earlier today).

Still getting the same results!

Forgot to mention, I'm using 5.6.2.

Hmmm... Very odd.

I got the menus back.

I created a new page this afternoon and added two modules to it (plus deleted the default html module that came with it). I removed the page from the menu and the menu showed back up.

The whole site is covered with modules just like the two I added, so I'm not sure that's it.

I did, however, add the page "a new way" that I hadn't used before. I'll keep troubleshooting.

Usually I use the admin->pages screen or the control panel Add Page button. This time, I used the control panel New Page button.

I'll move the modules one at a time to a different page and re-add the page to the menu to see which component is causing the menu to fail. Plus I'll dig thru the sql data to see if any page settings are different for the problem page.

The database settings for the page looked good.

Apparently, neither of the modules were the problem either.

I put the page back on the menu and all is well.  Never touched the module definitions.

Hopefully, documenting this non-productive, panic-inducing interlude will help someone else.
