I am working in DNN 5.6.2 for the first time. I want to be able to create pages which have no navigation menu on them, basically to display information that can be linked externally but which does not provide navigation throughout the site. How can I easily turn on or off the navigation menu within a page? I am using the default skin "extropy" for now.

Thanks,
u

Hi,

If all your pages of your website don't have to displayed in the menu then uncheck "Display in menu?" on all pages.

if you are not in this case you have to create un new skin without the "menu" skinobject in it.

Since I am new to this, would you be able to briefly share the steps required to create a copy of the "minimal extropy" skin that comes with DNN 5, remove the menu skinobject, and then apply it as a valid skin for the portal so I can apply it to only some of the pages internally?

This is on a Windows server that I have console access to if that helps.

Go to "\Portals\_default\Skins\" in your dnn installation directory.

You have to copy for exemple "index.html" to "inner.html" and "index.css" to inner.css".

Then remove

<object id="dnnNAV" codetype="dotnetnuke/server" codebase="NAV">
                                    <param name="ProviderName" value="DNNMenuNavigationProvider" />
                                    <param name="IndicateChildren" value="false" />
                                    <param name="ControlOrientation" value="Horizontal" />
                                    <param name="CSSControl" value="mainMenu" />
</object>

from "inner.html".

After that you go to menu Site, Skin and click on "parse skin". This generate a "inner.acsx" file.

You are ready to use the new skin .
