Our implementation of DNN uses LDAP which pre-populates the email address field for each registered user from LDAP.

During testing I have noticed a scenario in which I was hoping to get a little help. The issue revolves around appointments downloading as a new meeting (instead of as an appointment). I have confirmed this to happen in both IE and FF (in case that makes a difference).

If I leave the "Owner Email Address Export" field unchecked, I receive what would appear to be the correct behavior of a fake email with fname.lname@no_email.com listed as the organizer. The .ics comes across as  an appointment that I can save.

But, I am worried that our users may try to email the Organizer and get a bounce back. Due to that, I checked the "Owner Email Address Export" box expecting that the owner of the event would be listed as the Organizer.

Instead it appears that the .ics file downloads as a meeting instead of as an appointment. There is no option to save and close like with an appointment.

I wasn't sure if this was the expected behavior, or if there was a setting that I still need to try. Ideally I would have it so that it would open as an appointment rather than a meeting with the organizer listed as the owner.

To try to get around this, I also attempted to enable the option to send the reminder to me via email, but rather than an attached .ICS file, it attaches a blank email.

I have Event Module version 5.0.2 installed and am using DNN version 05.06.02 (144)

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Hi Billy,

In theory ticking the Owner Email Address Export should only change the email address listed against the Organizer in the .ics file. I can't say why the file doesn't offer the Open/Save As because that setting shouln't affect that in any way. I will however investigate.

As for the blank file, that sounds like a clear bug. Again I'll investigate and get back to you.

I assume you meant Events 5.2.0 not 5.0.2?

Regards
Roger

Thank you for the response Roger. It certainly seems strange. For what it's worth, I have been able to get the calendars to repeat this behavior by toggling those settings consistently.

Also I apologize, yes, I meant 5.2.0.

Thanks for your time. Please let me know if I can provide you with any extra info.

Hi Billy,

I've just done some testing, and switching the setting only changes the email address generated, nothing else. When I open the files in Outlook 2010, having saved both to hard disk using IE9 on Windows 7, they both show as appointments with the opportunity to save them to the calendar. The change is that when the no_email is opened it shows the email address, whilst with the valid email address Outlook converts this to the relevant contact name.

I also tried sending the same event via email, no problem... So it maybe there is a deeper seated data related issue. It may be easiest if you pint me offline and see if you are happy to give me some level of access to your site to investigate. If that is ok, mail me at webmaster at the domain in my profile.

Thanks
Roger

I was also going to ask. Can you detail what mail client you are using, and OS, etc - then  I may be able to more closely replicate your environment.

Thanks
Roger
