Hello all,

I would like to ask you few things regarding the dotnetnuke cause i am a totally new user.

I am a php, html developer and never switch to .net however i said to give a try.

I am using the dotnetnuke free edition via the webmatrix in windows 7 which is very cool and fast app to install it.

Now my questions:

1) The skins - what type of templates does the dnn support? for example i have several html-css templates that i used in the past, can i insert any of them if the language is .aspx?will it support it?and how do i insert a template?

2) Hosting - if i create a website on localhost how will i trnasfer it after on my real servers?does it require any specific server specifications or normal ones?

3) What are the best sources to download extensions and modules?

thanks all in advance and hope to learn fast this software,
Nekmak

Hi nekmak,
Welcome to the DNN community.
Regarding your questions:
1) DNN support HTML skinning, though it requires a specific syntax to integrate its skin objects - best IMHO is object tag syntax, see: http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Blogs/EntryId/2671/DotNetNuke-Skinning-101-Part-1.aspx

For DNN 5 Skin objects see http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Blogs/EntryId/2337/Skin-object-Documentation-update-codeplex-project.aspx

Hi Nekmak,

To answer your other two questions:

2) The following link provides a pretty good explanation of the migration process from a dev to a production environment: http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Blogs/EntryId/1293/HOW-TO-Move-a-DotNetNuke-installation.aspx

3) A great resource for DNN extensions and module is Snowcovered.com.

Another resource I may recommend as well is DNNCreative.com. Although it is a subscription based service, you can find a large amount of video tutorials and other resources to help learn about building DNN sites.

I hope all of this information helps you out. Good luck and welcome to DNN!
