Hi all,

I set up DNN 5.6.2 and used sql express.  The site is still pretty basic with only a few pages, 3 portals and some additional modules and skins.

Now I want to point my DNN install to SQL Server 2005.  Is this as simple as updating the connection string in the web.config file and running the installation again?

Thanks,
Mark

If your current connection strings (note that there are two - the primary connection string in the <connectionStrings> and the legacy connection string in the <appSettings> sections of web.config) for SQL 2005 Express references the user instance database file found in App_Data\Database.mdf it will first be necessary to attach this database file to SQL Server 2005 using SQL Server Management Studio or similar tool. You will then modify both connection strings to reference the SQL server and new credentials for SQL Server Authentication. It will not be necessary to run the installation again and you should not lose any of the work you have already done in setting up the site.

This blog post should provide the necessary details:
