We have the same issue.

This is the straw that breaks the camel's back. I'm quitting this f******* job. DotNetNuke is the worst content management system out there. Ridiculous architecture, shoddy Q&A, clueless developers. 3 years of agony working with this POS. Good bye and good riddance.

gzip can be problematic is all its forms - I would leave it off for DNN and PAGEBLASTER - as well as any whitespace filters.

DNN gzip was long well known of its bugs - broke AJAX and resulted in malformed tags.

So PageBlaster was the only hope we had for optimizing DNN site. However, god knows why page blaster gzip suddenly will resulted in missing html tag in DNN too! out of a sudden.

Which lead to a big serious problem: DNN site with gzip enable will not be able to use Google Plus Button - gosh.

Conclusion: It is not DNN and Page Blaster Problem but DNN core problem where some tag will gone missing if gzip is turned on. This is why after 3 years Gzip issue has been reported in DNN and no solution was found.

Temp Solution: I did a lot of learning and experiments to figure out how to enable iis7 gzip for dnn. However, iis gzip does not gzip all the time - there are few conditions where:

1. The page has been requested at least 2 times (by default)
2. CPU load does not exceed 50% by default.

Which is a bad news for a light weight server with many websites inside...

Thanks,
George

Just to throw one more thought into this.
If you are talking about Performance / Speed issues...have you ever thought about using an 'external' solution? I don't even touch my Compression / Whitespace Settings within my Portals. It showed that these settings are way not efficient as an externel Solution, regardles wether it might be an external Device or even an SaaS Solution.
