HI

Information as requested:

DNN 6.00.00 Upgrade release - http://dotnetnuke.codeplex.com/releases/view/70103#DownloadId=259631
SQL: SQL Server 2008 R2 (Express)

As per the post above is basically what I did, the only step I did was:

1: Copied the Dark Knight skin.css to make a backup
2: Tried to get the logo centered, which didn't work.
3: Restored back up of the original Dark Knight skin.css file

Thats when the problems started, and now when I try to get into any the the admin or host pages I get this error all the time:

An error has occurred. DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.PageLoadException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. ---> System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at DotNetNuke.UI.Skins.Controls.LeftMenu.CheckShowPath(Int32 tabId, RadPanelItem panelItemToCheck, String pageName) at DotNetNuke.UI.Skins.Controls.LeftMenu.BuildPanelbar(RadPanelItemCollection rootCollection) at DotNetNuke.UI.Skins.Controls.LeftMenu.OnLoad(EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint) --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

Please don't tell me, simply by restoring the backup copy of a skin file would cause all this.

I thjink I might have solved this, as posted earlier, the only areas I could not get in to were the Host and Admin pages, so this is what I did:

1: Added a test page.
2: Deleted all modules off it.
3: Added the skins module.
4: Applied the Minimal Extropy skin and containers.
5: Logged on and then back in to site

I can now see all the Host and Admin pages, why I don't know, but it is a little bit of a worry that this would happen, I will now try and apply the Dark Knight skin and see what happens, I will let you all know how I get on.

I have also got the same error in an upgrade from 5.6.2 to 6.0.0. The issue is that the LeftMenu files in the admin/skins folder have changed. I replaced the versions from 6.0.0 with the 5.6.2 versions and the original skin ascx file works now in 6.0.0. The registrations of the LEFTMENU in the new DarkKnight ascx and the old MinimumEntrophy skin are identical.
Does the leftmenu work in DarkKnight It isn't used in any of the supplied ASCX files. I did a Wingrep on the whole directory, it is registered but not used. I suspect the new 6.0.0 version of LeftMenu.ascx.vb or xml is the problem.

Hi Everyone.
ran into the same problem
Basically upgraded from version 5.6.2 to 6.0.0
I logged into my admin backend and going clicking on any of the icons in admin or host brings this:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
An error has occurred. DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.PageLoadException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. ---> System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at DotNetNuke.UI.Skins.Controls.LeftMenu.CheckShowPath(Int32 tabId, RadPanelItem panelItemToCheck, String pageName) at DotNetNuke.UI.Skins.Controls.LeftMenu.BuildPanelbar(RadPanelItemCollection rootCollection) at DotNetNuke.UI.Skins.Controls.LeftMenu.OnLoad(EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint) --- End of inner exception stack trace ---
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This happened after an upgrade. No altering or reconfiguring.
Any help would be appreciated

I'm also experiencing this issue with the minimal extropy pro skin. Does anyone know a way to change the skin of a site without using the visual interface? (the admin page also generates the error)

I don't want to overwrite the new files (DNN 6) with the old files (DNN 5x) because I also have other portals that run OK, and I don't want to risk messing them up.

Thank you,

Alex
