Morning all,

I had the default DNN search module working fine. I decided to trial a demo of a 3rd party module (which im not continuing with) and it seems to have broken my current search.

I uninstalled the demo (opensearch) yet I still get the following error when searching:

Error: is currently unavailable.
DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: The file '/DesktopModules/XSSearchResults/XSSearchResults.ascx' does not exist. ---> System.Web.HttpException: The file '/DesktopModules/XSSearchResults/XSSearchResults.ascx' does not exist. at System.Web.UI.Util.CheckVirtualFileExists(VirtualPath virtualPath) at System.Web.Compilation.BuildManager.GetVPathBuildResultInternal(VirtualPath virtualPath, Boolean noBuild, Boolean allowCrossApp, Boolean allowBuildInPrecompile) at System.Web.Compilation.BuildManager.GetVPathBuildResultWithNoAssert(HttpContext context, VirtualPath virtualPath, Boolean noBuild, Boolean allowCrossApp, Boolean allowBuildInPrecompile) at System.Web.Compilation.BuildManager.GetVPathBuildResult(HttpContext context, VirtualPath virtualPath, Boolean noBuild, Boolean allowCrossApp, Boolean allowBuildInPrecompile) at System.Web.UI.TemplateControl.LoadControl(VirtualPath virtualPath) at System.Web.UI.TemplateControl.LoadControl(String virtualPath) at DotNetNuke.UI.Skins.Skin.InjectModule(Control objPane, ModuleInfo objModule, PortalSettings PortalSettings) --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

When I mouse over the search icon, it look like it still wants to look for the OpenSearch results page. Not sure how to change this.

I have deleted all demo modules, re-added the search results module on the results page, cleared the search indexing using the following SQL command

truncate table {databaseOwner}{objectQualifier}SearchItemWordPosition
DELETE {databaseOwner}{objectQualifier}SearchItemWord
DELETE {databaseOwner}{objectQualifier}SearchWord
DELETE {databaseOwner}{objectQualifier}SearchItem

and then re-indexed the content, still not having any luck.

Any advice appreciated.

Tom

Hello Tommy;
The OpenSearch demo module you used has definitely broken your core search.
That module is fairly old and no longer supported.
The only way I see to get you back to a working search is for you to roll back to your last site backup - database and web files.

Is there a rogue module on the results page?  I'm assuming there were no changes to the skin as you said it only happens when you are searching.

Hi all,

I managed to fix the issue.

The rogue module had re-defined the search tag in my skins ASCX files.

Removed the entries and all is well.

Thanks for the assistance

I am glad you were able to fix your problem. For the future, I strongly suggest always starting with a full backup of all files and the database, before installing new extensions or upgrades.
