Hello all,

Now, I understand how incredible this might sound, but I'm looking for information on upgrading a site running DotNetNuke version 1 (implemented mid-2006).

Basically, I'm wondering if it's possible to upgrade from such an old version to DNN v6?

This particular system houses over 3000 documents and we would prefer not to start over from scratch!

Any thoughts on the matter would be greatly appreciated. I've searched the forums already but, as you can imagine, it's difficult to find information on such an old system.

Thanks in advance!

yes, you can upgrade - however there were breaking changes in both 2.0 and 3.0, so theres a risk your site may break (or the modules on it). Theres a suggested upgrade path at http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Wiki/Page/Suggested_Upgrade_Path.aspx -but i advise you to do LOTS of testing in a testing environment - good luck!

I discovered this afternoon that the site is running 3.2.x so I'm better off than I had thought, but it still looks like 11 separate upgrades to get to where I want to go! Whew!

Thanks a bunch for the upgrade path, Cathal Connolly.

especially for the first steps, you may follow my upgrade checklist: http://www.deutschnetnuke.de/tabid/186/Default.aspx

Starting with upgrades from 5.6.0, you don't need taking care of web.config changes any more.
Depending on the size of your content and your aims, it might be easier setting up a fresh new DNN install and porting over content manually or automated (as well as users).
