By's this has got me baffled...

Setting skins has got me confused. I cannot get it to work the way I want...  I want to basically the HOST and ADMIN pages to stick with the Dark Knight skin, since it was written for it and everything shows up perfectly fine in them and the size is correct.... But I want my website to have its own skin... So Host and Admin keep Dark Knight and any new page that is created to take my new skin that I developed.

I cant get it to work like this. Can I change something somewhere so that when the user hits Add Page it uses my skin??

I know how to change an individual pages skin via page settings... but when I create a new page, it uses dark knoight then i have to change it...
what is the proper procedure for this???

you do this by using skin name specific stylesheet i.e. you have 1 variant of a skin used for admin/host and one used for all other pages (i.e. set as the default) and have different css files for the skin names - see http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Wiki/Page/DotNetNuke-Stylesheets-explained.aspx

no problem, let me give an example - if you look in Portals\_default\Skins\DarkKnight you'll see the darknight skin. Each ascx (e.g. Home-Mega-Menu.ascx) is a skin variant that you can apply (you see this when you look at the skin in admin->skins). All of these when they get loaded check to see if a css file exists for them e.g. in this case Home-Mega-Menu.css , and loads it - if not it loads the skin.css file. This means that if you want 1 page to look different you just select that skin variant in it's page settins - and if you want that variant to have it's own styles then you can do this by creating it's own css (or by doing the style directly on the ascx)

Hi Stephen,

I've got a funny feeling that Cathal may have misunderstood your question ... and that's usually my job!

You simply want your Host and Admin pages in Dark Knight and your own skin for the site itself and you already have your skin in operation on the site ... yes? Then ...

Change your Admin and Host pages to the Dark Knight skin manually (you said you knew how to do this). If there's an easier way I don't know of it. (That said, there is no requirement to keep the Admin and Host pages in Dark Knight,)

Then go to Admin > Site Settings > Basic Settings tab > expand Appearance and set Portal Skin (and Portal Container if applicable) to your own skin (and container). This will change any pages not already set at page level and also set that skin when you add a new page.

Alternatively, if using Pages > Actions > Add rather than Pages > Add New Page you can set your page skin under Advanced Settings.

Hope that helps.
