Has anyone had a problem with the login page?

I click login and the popup just says the following:

An error has occurred. An error has occurred.

I have set this up on my localhost first, then released the DB and files to live (works fine on localhost).

I made a backup of my database and resored to my server... I then released my local web folder as normal.  I have added a potal ailias for the live website (the default being LocatHost\MyLocalWebsite ) and made sure both connection strings are pointing to my live database.

The Live site loads fine and I can navigate around it, but get the above error when I click login or navigate directly to login.aspx.

Could this be a validation key issue in the web.config????

I can login fine locally and using my local database... but unable to do the same live, even though the DB and files are an exact copy in Live (other than the connection string in web.config)

I've spent hours trying to resolve this... any help would be greatly appreciated.

(ps - ive previously been able to login when DNN was installed directly on the server using MS Web Installer, so suggests its not a hosting issue)

Thanks in advance!!!

Are there any differences in the web.config file between the two hostings ?
The two files need to be identical - unless you are connecting to different database locations - even then the only thing that should be different is the connection strings.

Also check that on your LIVE server all the folder permissions have been set correctly with the application pool user having FULL access.

You should also check that the two systems are both running asp.net 3.5 sp1 and at least mssql 2005.

Great... Thanks... It was a problem with the .net version. I had previously set the app pool to v4.0 which made changes to the web config file... Sorted now... Thanks again!

Provided both are set to asp.net 4.0 then you should be fine - i run most of our sites in asp.net 4.0 now.
It feels more stable and maybe a touch faster - though not totally sure on that one.
