i don't mind where it's done, but I just think that it's a central list of issues with known workarounds is good and saves on a lot of forum duplication(obviously all issues should be logged into support.dotnetnuke.com). To me the wiki makes sense as wiki pages are designed to be collaborative. Whilst a forum post can work also it tends to gather "noise" from people asking questions/confirming something works etc - so the only way for it to effectively work is if it's created and locked by a forum administrator, which means it's another job that can only be done by a limited set, whereas a wiki page can be edited by anyone.

Dont get me wrong - i agree that wiki is a good place to collect and maintain such a list - but its not something that is visible to most people.

Maybe the forum needs some pinned messages that direct people to wiki links for know issues - to be honest I'm betting a lot of people dont even know that the wiki list is there.

Maybe what would be a good idea - would be for the DOWNLOAD page area to include links to such an area = for know issues etc.

Although - I think in reality - what DNN needs to do is take a long look at the documentation system and process.

Lets compare DNN to two of its major competitors:

http://docs.joomla.org/

http://drupal.org/documentation

and contrast them with the same sort of links on DNN

http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/M...
http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/B...

Frankly - the dnn documentation leaves a whole lot to be desired - and just for entertainment - before anyone can even download the user guide they are dumped at a page  Having written way to many books in my past life I know what a huge chore getting documentation right can be . . . but maybe its time to start a new documentation project . . . that works a bit more like the joomla documentation - which is really wiki done properly. Compared to the joomla docs, the dnn docs really look decidedly average.

Take for example the dnn wiki page on installing or upgrading a DNN site
http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/W...
http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/W...

And contrast it with the joomla version of the same topic http://docs.joomla.org/Joomla_Install...
http://docs.joomla.org/Upgrade_Instru...

With all the new promotion of dnn600 to the c# community - feels like its time to bring the documentation into the 21st century as well..

Cheers

Westa

I agree with West on a revamp of links to the essentials.

Also sometimes less is more.

99% of the time build a forum I opt for the aggregated view.

All and all the sytem actually opens up more and more as your experiences grow.

But some common links such as a frequently asked questions page would do the trick.

Simple yet effective Links to the most common things.

Like

Modules

Bugs / Support

Projects

And so on.

This would create a bookmarkable page to common resources.

Saving time for the person working.

Short site map with no so much map lol
