I've found this resource for modifying the DNN to validate username:

http://eduworkz.net/Forums/tabid/57/forumid/2/postid/28/scope/posts/Default.aspx

Unfortunately, it seems to be for version 4.xx .  I was not able to locate the two last files - Library\Components\Shared\Globals.vb and Library\Components\Users\UserModuleBase.vb

The overall structure seemed to change

Has anyone had any experience with modding 5.xx to validate username with Regex?

please note, editing core code is never a good idea - i would take an alternative approach to this and create a custom membership provider and then you can control what is valid.

It's really not a huge core edit, from what I see in the 4.xx code modification. Writing a new membership provider seems a bit of an overkill for this simple feature addition, which IMO should be included along with e-mail and password validation options... hopefully in the future releases.

please log it as an enhancement request at support.dotnetnuke.com (I believe it may have been done before but the QA team will be able to associate it as a duplicate if that is the case)
