Hi, I am still having problems with the issues of sub domains and parent portals. This is what I have done so far.
1)  in my host ( webhosting.uk.com) I have added some subdomains using the Plesk Control Panel. Then I have checked that the records are correct for these in the DNS settings, ie, alovera.sunnysunnyspain.com is set to the IP address and www.alovera.sunnysunnyspain.com is set to CNAME alovera.sunnysunnyspain.com.

2) Then I have created a parent portal in DNN6 following the recommended settings and selected a template I have previously created (have also tried this with the Default Template selected). This then tells me the portal has been setup correctly and provides a link to that portal. However when I click the link (or try any other means of accessing it) I get the This is the placeholder for subdomain message.

When I use my FTP program to look at what has been created, there has been a new folder added under the root directory ( /subdomains/alovera) for the new portal with the usual cgi-bin, httpdocs etc folders inside that, however when I look inside the httpdocs folder the required DNN files are not there.

If I go to the root and /httpdocs/Portals I can see that a new folder has been created for the portal using the standard Portal ID - which is now 23 after all my attempts at getting this to work.

Please Help - I'm so confused!!!

You need to make sure all domain aliases point to the same IIS Web Site - do NOT use multiple IIS web sites pointing to the same installation directory.
