In DNN 5.5, on Admin-> languages, what is the difference between the system and host resource files under Static Resources? The Site seems to be for that specific portal, but what about the other 2? I can't seem to find any information on the differences? Thanks

I still don't understand when system is used vs host. The link you provided lists the following:
  • "System" will edit the base file for a given language. e.g. "GlobalResources.es-UY.resx"
  • "Host" will create a custom version of the localized file for this installation. e.g. "GlobalResources.es-UY.Host.resx"
It sounds like the host is for the installation of DNN. If it's for the entire installation, when is system used? Can you give me an example of when you have a host file, that the system file would get called instead of the host?

What I'm looking for is something like this, but for the host file: (Example: "If you go to a different portal, the portal files won't get used and the host file fill get used for the other portal". So when would the host file not get used? Thanks

Javier,
"System" is the base language pack for distribution - either for the core or any extension (Module, Skin, Provider). "Host" and "Portal" are provided for customizations of the default language pack for all or current portal, where changes need to be pertained on upgrades.

System is the file delivered with DNN or a system language package for an other language
Host is for this particular installation (all portals)
Site is for the single portal.
