I am looking for a replacement of the DNN Announcement module.

The module should have the following functions:
  • Central management of all news - all news should be added through one module
  • Categorization - news should have different categories according to which news would be displayed on different pages. It should be possible to add several categories to one article.
  • User/role permissions - adding news should be allowed to certain user roles. A possibility to resctrict different roles to certain categories would be nice.
  • "Read more" function - only a specified part of each article should be displayed (the introduction), the rest should be available through a "read more" link (the body). Creation of such article should be user friendly, i.e. no need for users to manualy create separate pages for the body of the article/news.
  • RSS - according to categories
And the most important function:
  • "Daily summary" - automated e-mails with new articles (or just their introductions and links) should be sent at specified times (each day morning). This should be restricted to certain categories and certain users/roles.

I have checked several modules on SnowCovered (Ventrian News, Cross Article, ...) but it seems to me none of them support the "Daily summary" function.

Hi,
The problem is, sending email can be a complicated game.  You have problems with spam filters, smtp server limits, email hosting limits, bounce back emails.  I recommend you get an article module such as digArticle or the others you mentioned and write some piece that will collect the article summary information and either ship it off to an email marketing service or find a DNN bulk email module that allows you to insert email jobs.  I know aweber does RSS emails, so when it detects a new item on an RSS feed, it sends mails out to the subscribers, not sure if that would help.

Hi Mike,

Thank you for your advice. I ended up with the same solution myself - I will get two separate modules, one for news and the other for e-mails. This seems as an optimal way to get what I need.
