How do I bring up a DNN portal on a different port? Here's my scenario (and the problem)...
  • I have a live site at http://www.mysite.com (let's say)
  • I have a second server at http://www2.mysite.com. I have developed and tested a complete new look-and-feel on that server
  • I now wish to move the DNN portal on www2 to www
  • I created a new database on www and restored the database from www2 to that database (note that the database name is different - by design - to the one that was previously live on www)
  • I copied the web files on www2 into a new folder on www (and edited web.config accordingly)
  • I created a new site on www to point to that new folder

Here's the rub...

When I modified IIS to point to that new folder I had some problems (I will document those elsewhere). So, what I want to do is bring up the new web site on (say) http://www.mysite.com:7001, while - for now - leaving the old site running on http://www.mysite.com (on port 80).

The problem is that I can't find a way to get IIS and/or DNN to recognise port 7001. I have configured the bindings for the web site in IIS to use port 7001 and have opened port 7001 on the servers firewall. However, I always receive 404 errors.

Any ideas on how I can bring up the new server on www but using the 7001 port?

Thanks.

I have subsequently learned to set the following in web.config but the issue remains:

  <add key="UsePortNumber" value="true" />

Thanks.

Mark
