hi , I'm new to dotnetnuke , I download dotnetnuke installer 4.x and then built a virtual directory in wwwroot and copy unzipped files to that, after that I open my browser and went to : http://localhost/dotnetnuke

then is recieved this error :

Server Error in '/DotNetNuke' Application.

Configuration Error

Description: An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request. Please review the specific error details below and modify your configuration file appropriately.

Parser Error Message: Root element is missing.

I think the web.config file is release.config by default.  Perhaps renaming it will get you going.

I reanme release.cofing to web.config nad then run the application, I received this new error :

Could not find file 'C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\DotNetNuke\Providers\DataProviders\SqlDataProvider\DotNetNuke_template.mdf'.

I check zipped and unzipped files and couldn't find this file (dotnetnuke_template.mdf) !

please help me urgently ! thank u all ! :(

You really need to follow the steps in the installation guide.  Did you create the database?  After that, you need to modify the web.config to point to the database so it can be initialized.  The guide is excellent for walking you through what needs to be done in order to have a clean install...it is quite simple actually!!
