Hi Will,

In our LMS we are using 'Learning' Roles for assignment of course content. We also use 'Teams' for grouping learners into an hierarchical training structure. The Team is not Role based, but some clients want an easy way to associate a role when needed, such as for eCommerce (to buy into a Team).

For each team, we offer the ability to associate a role. We then run a trigger when any role is added or dropped from any DNN user. If the role is a Team role, then we either add or drop the user from the Team. If there are NO Team roles currently associated with Teams, then we do not execute the SQL associated with the trigger.

We could extend the trigger processing to check if a role is associated with a AS Group is being added or dropped from a user, however we do not have an easy way to do this unless we create a UI to associate roles with AS Groups. It would be nice if you could include some kind of role, or even just a "reference" text field with each of your AS Group details. We could then place a role name in this reference field and use for our own devices. Can you think of an easy way to achieve this now? Do you have plans to support role associations with AS Groups? Any guidance, roadmap would be appreciated.

One could also run a scheduled task to see if any associated roles had expired, but we don't plan to support this at this time.

Thanks and good luck with 6.2!

Chris

Hi,

Now that DNN 6.2 no longer has a role limit:

Does this mean that AS will support Group assignment via roles? Does anyone know?

Thanks,
Chris

Chris, most of the AS features will be integrated in DNN Core Framework, starting with DNN 6.2.0

Note:Im not a AS user so forgive me if I don't get the terminology right - but in answer to your question as the AS social groups can be integrated into the core now and do not require their own abstracted tables/objects, we are extending roles to contain social metadata - as such you should see the same functionality but get some other role specific stuff (such as expiry dates/rsvp etc) for "free" as part of the change to roles.

Hi Cathal,

Major clients are asking for the ability to grant a user access to an Active Social group based on role assignment. Will this be supported? I think the answer is yes, but I'd like to be certain.

Thanks!
