Hi community,

I recently deployed the latest DNN 6 ,  users trying to register to my website using Chrome on Mac (myself) and other users are contacting me telling them that they can't register.  Works fine when not set to private. only when registration mode is set to private.

I have done my own testing ,

  • When you fill in all the fields and submit ,
  • You see the ajax image indicating that its loading/doing something but it does that for a while they it stops
  • and your on the same page looking at the fields with your information in them.

Now on my Chrome/Mac tests the user does get registered but there is no notification to the user.  However other users are not getting registered.  As a result users are registering multipe times thinking the 1st, 2nd didn't go through.

I was going to launch the site there but have to pull back until I get this resolved.

Its been a while since I got under the hood of DNN,

I do work developing software & website in ASP.NET (MVC) so if someone points be in the right direction I should be able to resolve it myself.  That is if I don't have to modify any DLL's ,  I am suspecting it may be a javascript issue.

This seems to be culprit ,

I had the Chrome Developer Tools open and I tried a new registration ,

I seen the email come through and then I watched the registration page & Chrome Javascript console and when the Ajax image stopped spinning the following message appeared.

    1. Telerik.Web.UI.WebResource.axd:15Uncaught Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerTimeoutException: Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerTimeoutException: The server request timed out.
      1. Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManager._endPostBackTelerik.Web.UI.WebResource.axd:15
      2. Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManager._onFormSubmitCompletedTelerik.Web.UI.WebResource.axd:15
      3. Sys.Net.WebRequest.completedTelerik.Web.UI.WebResource.axd:6
      4. (anonymous function)

Going by that stack trace it just looks like its timing out.

Why is this only timing out here, during private registrations?

Is there a way to increase the wait time?

I am continuing to find similar issues,

If I go in to the user accounts , select an unauthorised user and Authorize them.  Same thing happens Ajax loader spins and spins and then just stops,

user is authorized but email notifying them does not get sent.

You may have hit the reason in your last post. It could be that the SMTP is not configured properly on this system and it's trying to send out the emails to notify the user but it's unable to communicate with the mail server.

The timeout issue can be caused because ajax only has a up to 30 seconds I believe to get a result and the SMTP is taking longer to determine that it can't connect to the mail server..

Please confirm that you can send email through the system.
