the attrbiute and value should not be there for .net 2.0 (as it didnt exist in that version) and should be set to 2.0 in .net 4.0 as we're getting it to work as per .net 2.0 as .net 4.0 introduced a breaking change.

I upgraded two installations of DotNetNuke 5.6.in the same way to 6.1.5. The upgrade was error free on both installations.

After this upgrade one of the two installations shows exactly the error described above: it is no longer possible to input text into an HTML-module.

The Dot.Net.FrameWork is set to 4.0 and the attribute
requestValidationMode="2.0"
is present in httpRuntime.

One difference between the two systems is the version of server:

Installation 1: Windows Server 2008 SP2 : Not OK, Editing Html-Text not possible
Using User NETWORKSERVICE
Installation 2: Window Server 2008 R2: OK, Editing Html-Text possible
Using User IIS AppPool\DefaultAppPool

There is no entry in log.

Does anyone have this experience?

I found a temporary solution for the problem, changing the defaultProvider for HTML editing from
defaultProvider="FckHtmlEditorProvider"
to
defaultProvider="DotNetNuke.RadEditorProvider"

I found this comparing the web.config of installation package of DotNetNuke Version 6.1.5 with the version of my system.

The upgrade package does not not include a file web.config so existing versions of this configuration file stay unchanged. In this context I found many other differences between the two version of web.config.

So there are two questions:

(1) The HTML edit error seems to be a problem of FckHtmlEditorProvider. Does anyone know how to solve it?

(2) Is it necessary to synchronize existing versions of web.config with the web.config found in the install version 6.1.5?

1) FCK editor 2 is quite outdated and has known security issues. if you prefer FCK Editor, please use successor CKEditor 3, you may download for free from dnnckeditor.codeplex.com.
2) upgrade of web.config is done automatically, although there is no guarantee that an integration of a 3rd party provider will still work after an upgrade - you should either perform a test upgrade or check with the vendor/developer site - unfortunately, in this case, FCKEditor has been dropped silently by DNN without migration to a different editor.
