Hi All,

I have a website where the structure is hierarchical, and I want to change one of the top level pages.

We have a section, with a lot of pages under it, which for the sake of argument I will call "OldSection", and for some good reasons it is to be renamed "NewSection".

We have a situation where there are loads of pages accessed by

http://myurl/OldSection/pagenames.aspx

Which will change to

http://myurl/NewSection/pagenames.aspx

If I simply rename the top section page, there are going to be a ridiculous number of broken links between pages and It seems ludicrous to create thirty or fourty pages in "OldSection" just to have them redirect to pages with the same name under "NewSection".It struck me that I ought to be able to redirect any pages using the friendly URLs, but after a little experimentation, I think that is doomed to failure; although I am no reg-ex master.

Anyone got any ideas on how I can redirect a whole host of pages, simply?

Thanks,
Brian

I think I can solve my problem myself!

I had a rule in the Friendly URLs

Match: .*/OldSection/(.*)
Replace with: ~/NewSection/$1

And this failed, with an asp.net error that /NewSection/pagename.aspx was not found.

However, removing the tilde from the replacement string appears to correct the issue:

Match: .*/OldSection/(.*)
Replace with: /NewSection/$1

Seems to work. Does anyone know why?

Thanks
Brian
