Hi Gwyn,

FWIW yes, there some bugs but it you post up about them in the relevant module forum, you will more than likely get a fix of some kind.

For example, as regards not being able to edit the Wiki Home page simply do the following:
  • click Add Wiki Topic and create a temporary page
  • add a link to the Home page by entering [[WikiHomePage]]
  • click Save
  • then click the WikiHomePage link just created and you are taken to the Home page (you now have an Edit Wiki Topic link)
  • click the Edit Wiki Topic, make an edit and Save
  • this will then give you the Edit Wiki Topic link on the Home page permanently

Thanks, and yes I found that same workaround. My point is that this is such a FUNDAMENTAL feature... after all when you install a wiki for the first time it is empty and you MUST edit the homepage to create anything usable. So how did this get out the door with such a fundamental issue in it?! It smacks of lack of QA - and does nothing to give confidence to the user!

And yes the maps and wiki module are part of the standard install with 6.0.1. These are the main two I've played with more extensively  so far and neither work acceptably and just give a real bad impression. My confidence is extremely low...

Richard,

Sorry to hear you have been having some issues.

Did you follow the correct upgrade path:

At first DNN can be overwhelming, but once you poke around and learn the CMS, it is a very good product and great community. There can be issues, but upgrading any product can have issues.

Thank you,

[Thought I'd just replied to this but it seems to have gotten lost]

So yes I found the Wiki workaround you describe. But this is a FUNDAMENTAL issue. The first thing anyone will need to do with a Wiki is edit the homepage so what sort of QA has it been through? How did this get out of the door with such an issue and not immediately have it fixed?

Wiki and map modules were both part of 6.0.1 standard install. And both have big bugs.

These are the first two controls I've tried to use in earnest for 6.0.1 but experience of 4.9 was that I'll be finding bugs all day long and so far I'm not disappointed (and yet disappointed both at the same time). I'm saddened that it doesn't seem to have moved on. Core modules really need to be rock solid not flakey.

So I decided to start going and looking at some of the bugs myself. Downloaded the install version of 6.0.1 and opened in VS. Doesn't compile! Error with the Blog module as documented here....
http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Forums/forumid/92/threadid/371942/scope/posts/threadpage/2.aspx

And not fixed in over a year

Come on guys - really the CORE stuff has got to be right otherwise it's a huge disservice to the DNN brand.

gwyn, all of the source packages compile as expected (they kind of have to as that's what we base all the builds off for releases...) . Typically when someone says it doesnt compile it's because theyve missed some of the steps necessary for source file usage i.e. create a web.config (typically by renaming development.config/release.config), and build in release mode so all the necessary pacakages are in place. You can read about source packages at http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Wiki/Page/How-to-Install-the-Source-Package-of-DotNetNuke.aspx .
