I notice that some kind of logging is being written to files in Portals\_default\logs.  Why?  What part of DNN is doing this?  I thought that the only logs were siteog and eventlog,  both of which are stored in the database.

Is it the dblogging provider?  Is there any way of preventing these files being written, or of switching them to another file location, or to the database?

I am running DNN 6.01, default Dark Knight Skin, Web Server 2008 R2

tia!

this the lognet support added in 6.0 - you can change the logging level to any required value including "off" - http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Wiki/Page/log4net-In-DotNetNuke.aspx

Thanks Cathal, that is very useful info.

But I am having difficulty switching the location of the logging files.  I have altered dotnetnuke.log4net.config by setting file to "%SystemDrive%\\inetpub\logs\\Net4LogFiles" (I assume the double-backslashes are required?) but DNN continues to log the files to the same place as before - Portals\_default\logs.

I thought that changing the config file would cause the system to "notice" and act on the change, but perhaps I need to do something else?  I even tried making a change to web.config and saving it to force a recompile, but still the logging continues as before...

TIA!

the path for the log4net files is a relative path from the root of the website - it does not resolve fully qualified paths and does not contain logic that understands symbol links (e.. %systemdrive%) - if the value is in error it defaults to the previous value AFAIK
