Hello,

I'm pretty sure I already know the answer to this... but I thought I'd throw it out there. Is it possible to apply permissions settings to a role group rather than a specific role?

The usage situation is that I am making a module that will be placed on a generic "Administration" page. There will be multiple events, and specific roles will be created for the different events. So, each time we add an event, we'll add a corresponding role for that event's admins. I'd like to put those admin roles into a group - something like "Event Administrators", and then give access to that page to anybody in that group.

So far, I can only see how to give access to specific roles - but this would mean we'll have to update the page each time we add an event.

Any ideas?

Thanks - hope all's well,

Mike

no, role groups are just an organisational function to reduce the number of roles shown at any one time - you can of course create the role automatically during the creation of the event e.g. part of the code on http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Wiki/Page/Create-a-New-User-and-Add-to-Specific-Role-Programatically.aspx will do that for you

Hi Cathal,

Thanks - that's what I figured.

It would be cool to be able to use groups that way - logically similar to users and groups in Windows' security model. But, that would, of course, be a pretty big change.

I was going to have events create their own admin role programmatically, but it's trickier to have that same process be modifying page permissions, because the relevant module may not be on the page it would need to update.

Ahh well - I'll figure something out.

Thanks for your help,

Mike
