All the specifications for DNN specify MS SQL 2008 but do not specify the version .  I'm looking at Rackspace Cloud hosting which allows me to choose as the database the SQL Web Edition version and not the standard 2008 .   This is a much less expensive option while my store is really small.

Is web edition SQL OK to use?

Thanks... Rick

I think Web Edition is OK, but I have not tried.

Web edition is designed for hosted website and cuts off some advanced features from Standard edition, mostly about the mirroring (web can only serve as a witness), pulishing (web can only subscribe), and perf (web does not come with SQL Profiler). There's a full comparison: http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/en/us/product-info/compare.aspx

"All the specifications for DNN specify MS SQL 2008 but do not specify the version." I think it support all the versions, Express, Web, etc.

I'm thinking it will be fine, the Web edition.    Most of the features lost as you say are more towards BI and operational deployment, reporting and the like.

The reason I'm going to try it, is that I will be deploying on Rackspace cloud [ http://www.rackspace.com/cloud/cloud_...
] which allows me great freedom to expand.  As a starting point, they offer SQL web version at the much less price than the standard version of MS-SQL.    I'll have some real life experience shortly with the cloud and the web ms-sql.

Thanks... Rick

Update for those that had the same question.  MSSQL web edition is fine.  I have an installation now of 6.x with the SQL web edition and it runs without any issues.

Thanks... Rick
