Hello fellow DNN'ers --

I'm a new user of DNN Community when I upload a small png file of a photo using the File Manager or a module, it works just fine and quickly too. But, when I try to upload a large 5-8 mb MP3 file using FM or the upload feature on the module, I get this error every time, though the file is uploading based on packets sent.

I'm using DNN 6, the latest upgrade and this is the error:

An unhandled exception was generated during the execution of the current web request. Information regarding the origin and location of the exception can be identified using the exception stack trace below.

[HttpException (0x80004005): Request timed out.]

Microsoft .NET Framework Version:2.0.50727.3623; ASP.NET Version:2.0.50727.3618

Many thanks for the kind help,

Mike M

please see http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Wiki/Page/Working-with-large-files.aspx - you'll need to change the executionTimeout to resolve your issue, but if you intend uploading files larger than 8mb you'll have to tweak the other settings that the wiki article suggests also.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you also need to be using at a minimum asp.net 3.5 for DNN 6.

yes, you need .net 3.5sp1, but that is the version of the .net you require. Unfortunately Microsoft split the version of the CLR and the version of the framework which makes this confusing i.e. the CLR can be CLR 2.0 (and be associated with .net 2.0, 3.0, 3.5 or 3.5sp1) or .be CLR 4.0 (and be associated with .net 4.0) - you can check what you're running by going to host->host settings and looking for the .net framework version on the basic settings tab (note: it will show 3.5 and not 3.5sp1 as detecting the sp1 one part is not something it does)

Thank you Cathal and Jeff for the help. The problem was the timeout issue. The version of framework is correct on the host server. And now it's correct on my Windows machine.

Once again, many thanks! for the help. It is appreciated very much,

Regards,

Mike M.
