This sounds suspiciously like your host is possibly shutting down your application pool thread - have a look in your event log and see if there are any application pool shutting down events.

FWIW since moving to 6.0.x all our clients have been reporting how impressed they are with the speed improvements. Pretty much every action looks and feels more spritely.

Hi Cathal, thanks, I will give Fiddler a go but am pretty useless with debuggers. Nothing in the event log.

Hi Westa, thanks for replying, again nothing in the log.

Just remembered that Firefox upgraded itself to 7.0.1 at around the same time as this problem started, don't know whether that could be anything to do with it but will experiment with other browsers just to eliminate that as the problem.

Will be back later with my findings.

OK, not getting very far.

As regards using Fiddler, have got as far as downloading and installing it but can't even get the instructional videos to play at the moment, will try again later. I did try launching Fidller and forcing all traffic through it but that just made things worse, so shut it down.

Tried logging in using IE9, Chrome and Safari but no difference, so not browser related.

My initial joy at subsequent logins working subsided when, after a while, everything went slow again. Seems to be ramdom. Click a tab or link, the screen goes white and the browser tab icon goes around and around with "tranferring data from www.domain.com" in the status bar. Minutes later, the page loads ever soooo slowly.

I tried creating new SuperUser logins, again I was optimistic when things started smoothly only to go pearshaped minutes later.

I'm going to try using my spare laptop later to see if it's anything to do with this machine.

Back later.

OK, don't know if this error is related but will post it up in hope.

In was browsing to a page on the site when I noticed the browser address having the suffix '?tabid=189&error=An unexpected error has occurred&content=0'

The page then looked like the Layout View and I was logged out.

I logged back in and the page displayed the message 'A critical error has occurred'.

I looked in the Event Log and there was Host Alert as follows:

Resource Not Found: URL
URL::
Server Name: CLE02WEB10

Any ideas?

TIA

Just by way of an update, I have had a program called Trusteer Rapport (recommended by various banks to protect login details) installed on my computer for some time and it appears that it suddenly decided to block/replace some IP addresses it thought were dodgy. I disabled the program and everything is back to normal speed.
