Creating a website with MS SQL, ASP.NET and all is very easy with DNN but adding your own code ni your own modules is a litle bit harder. I would like some more updated manuals on this area please

This is what I purchased to get started; "DotNetNuke For Dummies"  Something to start me from the basics.  After this book, I can then look into those more advanced programming books on DNN that I saw on Amazon.com

Hi Halle,

A year ago I was in the same predicament as you. I needed to create a Kenyan website for property listings but I wasn't a developer nor did I know what HTML or CSS was. During my study for electrical engineering, I took an introductory class in VB.NET building windows forms. Building on that background I started learning ASP.NET watching Joe Stagner's videos (and learnt HTML, XML, CSS, DOM, Javascript from http://www.w3schools.com/).

Then I came across DotNetNuke ( I don't remember how) but needless to say, I couldn't believe how easy it was to build sites with it. I started teaching myself custom module development by buying DNN books on amazon (used are dirt cheap), but my best teacher was free modules with source on codeplex. If you visit my site, you will notice I built my custom modules by heavily modifying jkappel's simply classified module. While my code and presentation is now radically different from his, by using his source code as the basis for mine, I was able to leapfrog from 'kindergarten for dotnetnuke programming'  to 'dotnetnuke programmers university' so to speak. Download free modules with source from codeplex and learn from them. Also look at core modules source code for ideas.

Good luck.
