I run a small community portal and we get emails a few times a day from the police with an word attachment of the current crime happenings.  Does anyone know of a module or method that will automatically receive the email look for an attachment from a certain address and republish these attachments as text?

Thanks,  Dave

Dave,  a few changes to Axon and you will get you what your looking for.  Currently in development is a new Campaign type like the Satellite that will push content publishing via email to DotNetNuke.

Is it always a Word document? What version of Word? Is the same content in the email body itself?

Where is this information being published?  Currently you can publish the content to the Axon Viewer and potentially Novus as well for RSS.

Hello,

Is it always a Word document? What version of Word? Is the same content in the email body itself?

In our case it's an RTF, but I could see how it is useful to support other version of Word docs.  The content is not in the body of the email.  Although it would great to that the option to publish both the email body and / or the attachment.

Where is this information being published?

We would like the information published into Ventrian News, but would consider using any news module like Ventrian News that supported commenting on the published email / attachment.  The idea is to take an email feed / stream and republish it in an attempt to garner comments.  Having said this it might be best republishing the incoming email content to a discussion within the base DNN Forum module?

I receive it in GMail which of course offers a "View as HTML" option.  :)  Just not a "Republish on your DNN site within a comment enabled module" option.  :)))

Thanks for your consideration.

Dave

It will at least have the option to publish an RSS Feed from it.  Then any module that can read RSS (like Novus) could instantly publish it to your site (with comments also like Novus).    Pulling the HTML and Text parts of an email is not a big deal, but pulling down and processing the attachments is a little more complex.  I'll see what can be done to include RTF in the first release of the new campaign type for Axon.

Directly publishing to a module can cause issues when a new version of that module is released.  This is why RSS is a better approach.  Novus can pull in an RSS feed and turn it into news articles that people can comment on and even rate.

Will that work for you?

Hello Chris,

Thanks for your thoughts.  It looks like Axon is close to what we would need and if you can make it deal with attachments, then somehow feed that to a news module with commenting, we would be buyers.  Please let me know.

Thanks,

Dave
