Hello,

I have a subfolder under Portal Root. The default permissions for Portal Root and the subfolder are for All Users to Open and Browse. I want Registered Users to have Write permission to the subfolder, but not Portal Root. I have been unable to accomplish this.

When I apply Write permission to the subfolder for Registered Users, they cannot upload to the subfolder (they receive the following error message: "You Do Not Have Sufficient Permission To Write To Folder"). However, if I grant Write permission to Portal Root for Registered Users, they CAN upload to the subfolder (with or without Write permission applied to the subfolder). Why is it necessary to have the permission on Portal Root? It is intentional that you cannot simply assign permissions to a subfolder without adjusting its parent as well? I'd rather not grant Registered Users permission to write to the portal root.

I'm using DNN 5.6.1, if that is helpful. So far I've been unable to locate any documentation specifying the file manager permission inheritance and its requirements. Any input is appreciated.

Thanks!

i was under the impression that the user needed browse permissions (so they could navigate to the folder) at the root and not write - if you find something different please log it as a bug to support.dotnetnuke.com
