A friend asked for help with a dotnetnuke configuration. He wants his clients to log in and see the status of shipments that he sets manually (he has another tool to manage the actual orders, so ecomm not necessary here).

In my Drupal world, I could do this in 15 minutes with a content type with a few fields and categories attached to the user profile.

Any advice on configuring this with core dnn 6? Extensions required? Custom coding required?

I looked at contentList and taxonomy briefly, but still developing my understanding of dnn infrastructure. I've coded VB and C# in the past, so it's not beyond me to create a custom dnn module, but just don't want to reinvent the wheel if this is available in core.

Thanks, and looks like DNN has come a long way since I last looked at it.

I would check out form and list module (shipped with DNN, but not installed by default, go to Extensions in Host (!) menu and choose "Install available extensions" to get it installed).
The module allows you to create a list with multiple typed fields per row, like a table in MS Access with edit form, list (and detail) views.

Hey, look, a bunch of disabled but very useful extensions!

Danke, Sebastian!

And the DNN fun begins!

DNN is a platform, most of the features are in the extensions - have fun exploring their capabilities.
