Hi there,

Im using SQL Server but it as the point that I choose sql server from the two options in the install process that the problem occurs. Usually it would change the page to give the SQL Database options but instead i am asked to authenticate with a windows username/password and when it fails the whole site becomes inaccessible. I have reinstalled the pages twice and had the same issue. I deleted all the 6.1 files and installed 6.0.2 with no problems.

So there are no hosting issues and this only happens with 6.1.

HEEELP!

Ian, if you're getting a Windows Authentication prompt this sounds like it must be related to permissions on the files themselves.  There is nothing different about 6.1.0 that would cause this.  Is there any chance you could post a quick screencast or couple of screenshots to illustrate the problem?

Good idea, I will post the screen cast later today.

I pressed the ISP regarding the issue above (initial post) and they finally admitted some ACL setup problems (why are ISPs so relectant to admit to any problem??). The ACLs have now been fixed and the installation was completed.

However, in common with other posters above, the permissions problem was only flagged at the database config stage of the install wizard i.e. after a successful DNN permission test.

Why did the permissions test succeed when the requisite permissions were not in place?
