Just a little update...

I have granted everyone a modify permission to my DNN installation folder and I it still does not work.

Maybe firewall?

I would appreciate any further help. Thanks in advance.

please make sure you enabled TCP/IP protocol, for both, SQL Server and SQL Client!

I've never changed that and had to google instruction on how to do that. According to SQL Server Configuration Manager, the TCP/IP is enabled (everywhere I could find it in that application). So I guess, the problem still exists somewhere else. Thanks anyway.

Hi guys,

I've decided to not give up on installing DNN 6 on my work laptop.

I think the problem is in the SQL Server authentication.

When I log in to the SQL Server 2008 to create my DNN database, I have to leave the default server name at it is (my workstation name) and use Windows authentication, without typing any password.

Then when I set up persmission of the DefaultApp user for my DNN installation folder in wwwroot, I am really not sure which "localization" option am I supposed to set. I've been always setting it to my workstation name, but there is a bunch of nodes, so maybe I should set it to something else (the options I have are also: "Entire Directory", some company .com domain, as well as "xxx.local".

Can u guys give me any hint on what the correct selection would be in the step I described?

In the Database Configuration I tried both - single dot, and my workstation name and none of them worked.

you may use DNN with integratedSecurity (i.e. the windows account used by ASP.Net in your IIS App Pool) or a SQL server user with password (requires mixed authentication been turned on).
