as a workaround, did yout try it the other way round (adding a user to role vs. a role to a user)?

I can manage users and their role membership both ways (through both Users and Security Roles). I just can't add, edit or delete any roles...which I need to do.

If you go into EDIT a role, you'll note a delete option there.  I think there is not delete in the listing because it is not a common action (once established).

Add and edit is what I really need to do, delete isn't a big deal. I get the error when I click the edit icon.  The error turns up in the pop-up.

I've also gone through the module and tabs tables looking for 9999 dates and haven't found any.
