is it possible that i can i place a check in my module code seeing where my module is installed. (contentpane or rightpane or leftpane). basically if it is installed in the left or right pane i want to bring only 3 records and if it is installed in contentpane i want to bring all the records. is it possible? maybe can some one share any different technique by which i can achieve the above in my module code.

You could look at the pane that it is placed in, but honestly this sounds like something that would be better suited and more flexible if you gave a configuration setting for say "mode" and "Max records" and then simply use those values to control your display.

That way if you ever work with a skin that has odd pane names, you are not going to have issues.

Why not to try to create a field in the setting view of this module to limit the max count of records to display?
