How does one export sub portals and their data for transfer to another hosting provider?

This process isn't quite as easy as you think as there is no direct way to move from one DNN install to the other.

You can export your portal as a Portal Template and choose to include content, but it will ONLY include content that individual modules actually support exporting. Which in most cases is NOT enough content to totally recreate the site.

I see lots of tears from those wishing to move their hosting providers...

if you want to move to a different hosting provider, you will need a zip of all files and the database.

That means by implication that if one website owner wanted to move to a different hosting provider you would need to hand them the portal databse and zipped website files even if the portal contained the combined info of 50 other websites.

This does not make sense to me. I would be compelled to refuse such a request on the basis that it was forcing me to hand copyrighted material to someone who did not own it.
