Hi all,

I'm in the midst of an intranet redesign and would like to solicit some input on a specific form of authentication I need.

Currently my intranet is set up to NOT allow anonymous browsing within IIS so that I can programmatically expose and grab the visitors network ID using Request.ServerVariables("auth_user").  I then take their network ID and try to find a record in a SQL Server database with a matching value.  If found, I know the visitor should be on the intranet.  I also return their name and other useful information.

I'd like to continue this form of authentication with DNN.  My users should not have to log in or supply any credentials.  When they visit the new intranet, I'd like to auto authenticate them using this method to allow them to view the website, post on the forums, blog, etc but still allow me to know who they are.

Any advice or input is appreciated.

Regards,

Mark

Mark,

Have a look at the Windows Authentication provider that is part of the DNN install. It can handle this process for you entirely adding the users to DNN etc, including the AutoLogin stuff.

Mitchel,

Thanks for the suggestion.

Just thinking about this -- let's say I ease up on the restriction and allow annonymous access to most intranet content but want to restrict access to certain portals. What's the best way to accomplish this?

Thanks,
Mark

Any authentication provider may be enabled per website (portal), if installed in a DNN installation
