Hello DNN Experts,

Background Info:

  • We have a dev server to host the DNN database/DNN application. The purpose is to have DNN applications running that will only be visible by our developers - for development/testing purposes.
  • We want to test all of our third-party modules on this server. (DEVSERVER)
  • In order for all of our developers to have access to this server, we use a VPN to connected all the developers machines to DEVSERVER.We copied all our production DNN Web sites to the dev server and installed them. They are all up and running.
  • Our VPN (Logmein Hamachi) assigns IP addresses to each machine on the VPN.
    Here is an example list:
    DEVSERVER - 50.1.0.25
    DEVELOPER1 - 50.1.0.26
    DEVELOPER2 - 50.1.0.27

 The Problem:

SCENARIO #1)
If I log on to the DEVSERVER computer and open the browser and go to http://localhost/DNNApp1 - I can see the DNN application.

SCENARIO #2)
If I log on to the DEVELOPER1 computer and open the browser and go to http://50.1.0.25/DNNApp1 - I can see the DNN application.

BUT

We have some third-party Modules that require licensing, but should work in localhost environment. So when we navigate to pagex that has the third-party modules, this is what happens:

SCENARIO #3)
If I log on to the DEVSERVER computer and open the browser and go to http://localhost/DNNApp1/pagex.aspx - I can see the third-party module without problems.

SCENARIO #4)
If I log on to the DEVELOPER1 computer and open the browser and go to http://50.1.0.25/DNNApp1/pagex.aspx - I get an error that you need to license the module.

 THE QUESTION

Has anyone set up a localhost development environment that will work with VPN and third-party licensing?

This would be something that is specific to the third party modules as they all handle licensing differently, I would suggest contacting the developers of those to see what they recommend.
