Please take a look at this web site. www.businessbridge.com. I am in the same industry and would also like to offer this kind of technology to my clients. From what I understand, each client has access the a private portal (similiar to a message board) where the client or the clients cleaner can post messages to each other. Furthermore, when a message is posted, an email is sent to all the parties informing them that a meesage has been posted and a reply is expected. The above website has a nice little tour video that they put together to explain to potential clients about the "portal" service they offer. Maybe looking at this video will better explain what I am trying to say, http://www.businessbridge.com/Services/TourofthePortal/tabid/297/Default.aspx.

Can a person like me who has never created a web site but is comfortable with different programs and PC's create a website from scratch similiar to the one mentioned above? Also, how much would it cost to have a similiar site made for me?

Thanks for your time.

Yeah.....that is a nice site.  Anyone can "create" a nice webiste like that, it depends on how much time you want to spend learning different aspects and the different programs......but you can do it.  The cost of such a site would vary.........some designers could command a price of  $1500 or more......depends on the market.

Loaded question there. I guess it depends on your self-professed level of idiocy. :)

That site was done in DNN, so to answer your question, Yes!

I'm a bit late responding to this but I wanted to throw in my 2 cents on the subject.  Nearly anyone willing to learn can make websites using dnn.  It can be a bit tedious to get a site fully functional.  To make a good site that is graphically balanced and pleasing doe stake some talent.  Making a site that functions in an intuitive manner also takes some experience and talent.  That said many many sites are built by the businesses they represent.  DNN and tools like it make us all think we are graphic and interface designers.  Most of us are not both of those.  These powerful tools that are readily available to all of us make us think we are capable to producing good results.  I am not a carpenter if I acquire all the tools.  I am not a artist if I have the collection of paints and canvas.

Look at your business.  Your business is cleaning businesses.  What would you say to a business who would ask you if they could just clean their business themselves?   Your answer to them will be nearly exactly the same as the answer to your question in this thread.

Really though the point is what a good website worth to you?  You need to see if the cost of that site would be greater than its value.  Remember your time is NOT free.  You could hand it off to experts and get it done in a couple of weeks or you could take a couple of months of your own time.  I say stick to your area of expertise and try to make enough money that you can pay guys like me to build you a website while you are out playing golf, or sailing or whatever.

Can you create a site like that?  Hmm... I am not sure because it apparently has gone into the future to be created... Check out the copyright 2007!?!?!?!?!?!

Actually, just having a little fun.  Of course you could use DNN to create that site.
