To anyone who reports this kind of stuff, tell us when your hosting is due and when your site went down and we can determine who is being unreasonable. If they took it down after 15 days from the due date, it's their right according to their rules. Even if you didn't get any notifications, it's your responsibility to pay on time.

@Nexiv - ... you should know when you need to pay for something.

That is probably the letter of the contract, but it's not how most recurring deals work on the ground.

Each year the treasurer down at my Volleyball club reminds me that I should pay up for the annual sub.  Sure if I just ignore it she'll eventually refuse to let me in, but generally she prefers to get the money and I prefer to keep on playing.

So, even though I probably *should* know when I have to pay for (say) hosting, I probably don't pay much attention to it until the reminder/bill email arrives.  If I ignored/missed it I'd certainly expect at least one reminder before being cut off.  I reckon it works much the same way as my volleyball club.  They prefer to get the money and I prefer the hosting to continue.

Seems to me this time the customer didn't receive/missed the emails and DNN4LESS are making a nice gesture to put things right.

Best wishes,

@Nexiv - I don't know how you pay for your hosting but all the hosting accounts I have use recurring billing.  You don't have to give them your CC every month.  You give them your CC number once and forget about it. You may see the charge on your monthly statement but if the charge doesn't go through it won't be on your monthly statement to remind you.  With regards to my CC number, I didn't get a new or different card - CC's expire every three to four years and then your bank sends you a "new" one with the same number but with updated expiration dates.  I simply forgot to UPDATE the CC DNN4Less had on file.

@Richard - Thank you.  Being a single parent of three teenagers, having parents with alzheimer's, and having more business irons in the fire than I should I feel very fortunate that I remember I have an account with DNN4Less at all.  Remembering that I will have to update the CC that they have on file three years from now?  Sorry, I'm just not that good.

All - This thread kind of smacks of airing dirty laundry to me even though I am the OP.  But they did this once and I didn't say anything - everyone makes mistakes. They did it the second time and I still probably would have kept it between us but when I talked to their support they passed the buck and tried to blame the problem on my ISP. In fact their long term solution was for me to switch ISP's.!  Third strike.

Have a look at their pricing - and you will get a pretty good idea of their target audience.

It never fails to amaze me that businesses want to pay nothing for web hosting but then complain when its not what they expected.

Pay peanuts get . . .

Economy plan, of course no bells, no whistles.

Some degree of reliability is still a reasonable expectation.
