I am new to DNN and basically took over an incomplete install of DNN 5.4 installed on a Windows Server and MSSQL.  There are only two users set up, host & admin.  Unfortunately nobody has the passwords for either and SMTP was not set up so trying to recover the password through email will not work.  I tried to edit the HostSettings table with Gmail and Yahoo SMTP settings but that did not appear to work because no emails were generated and I did not see anything in a packet dump.  I did change the email address for the admin account in the Users and aspnet_Membership tables to a current email account.  I cannot create a new account because it appears there is not a new registration form.    I am looking for help on

1.  Configuring the SMTP settings for Yahoo or Gmail using MSSQL and/or

2. Resetting the password for the admin and/or host account.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ron

Please follow the proceedure in this article to reset the host user password via direct access to the site's database:

http://knowledge.3essentials.com/web-...

Note in particular that since registration of new users has been disabled for your site you first need to change the value in the UserRegistration column of the Portals table to 2. Not mentioned in the article is that you may need to force a restart of the application, i.e. recycle the application pool for this change to take effect as the various portal settings values are heavily cached.

Once you have host access to your site you should be able to reset the admin password and configure SMTP settings normally.
