Thanks William. I recognised that as the issue. Can you explain why this will fail with a location element, and is there way to fix it.

Roger,

The problem arrises when a <location> element is used to wrap the <system.web> and/or <system.webServer> sections to allow for runing other ASP.Net applications in a sub-folder of the DNN application. This changes the XPath to a particular web.config element that the XmlMerge API is attempting to modify, causing the modification to fail with an exception being thrown. I first noticed the issue when the .Net40 web.config changes failed on some installations.

Fortunately, DNN 6.1.2 included a fix for both this issue and a related one to prevent an installation from failing with an exception thrown when XmlMerge was unable to find the node to be modified.

Hi,

I am afraid still having issues, cannot find a location element in the web.config and have verified that the app identidy has full control of the wwwroot folder. any more pointers?

Hiya,

Mail me offline at webmaster @ the domain in my profile. I can advise you how to create an install package to remove those specific changes which are only needed to enable the module to do Sitemaps for Google.
